Access JSTOR at jstor.org

Picture
You can do a basic or advanced (recommended) search at jstor.org OR:
Below the main search bar in red is an "Open Access Content" box. If you click there, you don't need to worry about logging in or creating an account, as everything under that content is free and open to the public.
Picture
You will notice the advanced search option does not appear under the open content section, but you can still do an advanced search by using parentheses. Each search term is in parentheses, the Boolean operator is between the two terms, and all 3 pieces are inside another set of parentheses. This entire bit goes into the single search bar.
((death penalty) AND (lethal injection))
--Shows only results that include both terms
((death penalty) OR (lethal injection))  --Shows results that mentions either term or both terms
((death penalty) NOT (lethal injection))  --Shows results that mention the first term but only if they don't also mention the second term
You will know you have access to any source where Download PDF shows in blue.

If you choose to remain in the regular content of JSTOR, advanced searching is the best way to have the database filter out unneeded results. Just like Gale databases, the first term is always included, the drop down boxes on the right tell the database where to look for your term, and the dropdown menu on the left is the Boolean operators (which tell the database how to treat your terms).

It is recommended that you toggle the access type box to "Content I can access" before clicking search.

From the results page, you can filter your resources by the controls on the left. Since JSTOR contains A LOT of resources, it's best to put a Publication date range in before sorting through resources. Remember, it's best to stay within 5 years when researching.

You will be able to click and copy the citation information from the results page or after you click on an individual source. Although you can export the citations to Citation makers, since the citation is already complete, you can copy and paste it onto the Google Doc that will become your Bibliography.

Atlantic High has limited access to JSTOR. Even after logging in with ATL credentials (un: achs pw: 2achsjstor) you might not gain the access you want. You are welcome to create your own account (use your school email address) and read 100 free articles each month. (Note: this may only be during COVID times and not eternally.)

Once you are logged in, you can read articles immediately (and remember to annotate and take notes for later!) or save your articles to a workspace.

The workspace will allow you to look at all of your articles, cite, and export. Just remember to ensure you are logged in or save articles for later before closing your browser.
